Storm King is not for the faint of heart. In two miles, you will climb over 2,000 feet in elevation, and part of that employs the use of safety ropes near cliff edges. Make sure to bring grippy hiking boots, gloves, and lots of water. This is not a hike you want to find yourself unprepared on. To reach the quintessential “Storm King view,” you will need to scramble over challenging terrain, and if you have anxiety and/or a fear of heights, you may have to push through some intrusive thoughts to get there and back again, but the view is absolutely amazing, and well worth seeing at least once.
I’ve done this hike a handful of times and each time, I tell myself I probably won’t do it again. But every summer, the mountain beckons to me, to try to get up there one more time. If you’re in fairly good shape, with excellent joint stability, and you’re looking for a challenge, definitely give Storm King a try.
